So Windows Vista is about to be unleased and with it comes a new way to measure your systems epeen. The Your base score is part of the new Windows Experience Index and here's what Windows help has to say when you clieck on the "What do these numbers mean" link.
QUOTE
What is the Windows Experience Index? The Windows Experience Index measures the capability of your computer's hardware and software configuration and expresses this measurement as a number called a base score. A higher base score generally means that your computer will perform better and faster than a computer with a lower base score, especially when performing more advanced and resource-intensive tasks.

Each hardware component receives an individual subscore. Your computer's base score is determined by the lowest subscore. For example, if the lowest subscore of an individual hardware component is 2.6, then the base score is 2.6. The base score is not an average of the combined subscores.

You can use the base score to confidently buy programs and other software that are matched to your computer's base score. For example, if your computer has a base score of 3.3, then you can confidently purchase any software designed for this version of Windows that requires a computer with a base score of 3 or lower.

So...if you are running Vista...post your score.

Here's my home machine running Vista Business build 6000. The one I game with most.

Base Score is 4.8

Component - What is rated - Subscore

Processor - Calculations per second - 4.8

Memory (RAM) - Memory Operations per second - 4.9

Graphics - Desktop Performance with Aero - 5.9

Gaming Graphics - 3D business and gaming graphics performance - 5.1

Primary hard disk - Data transfer rate - 5.9

My slow point is my AMD64 3000+
My best goods are a tie of my striped 36BG raptors (on a 3ware 9000 series card) and my nVidia 6800GT.

4.5 with Memory being the lowest score. 2GB running at DDR333 because they are mis-matched. Need to fix that smile.gif.

4.9 for Processor - 4200+ X2

5.9 Graphics

5.9 Gaming Graphics - go go 8800GTS!

5.9 Primary disk drive

HP Pavillion laptop upgraded to Vista Ultimate

Processor - 4.7
-Intel Core Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
Memory - 4.8
-2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics - 4.7
Gaming Graphics - 4.6
-256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
Hard Drive - 5.0
-7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Only thing I did when upgrading to Vista was double the RAM. I must say that for a year-old laptop I am happy with my score.
